Description

The procedure concerns the issuing of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), a free card, which is provided to those who are actively insured by e-EFKA, in order to have access to medically necessary state care during their temporary stay in one of the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, with the same conditions and at the same cost (in some countries, free of charge) as insured persons in that country.

Notes

The European Insurance Card does not replace travel insurance. It does not cover private health care, nor does it cover costs such as the air return ticket in the country of origin or the loss/living of assets. It also does not cover the costs, if the insured person travels specifically to receive medical care. It does not guarantee the free provision of services, since the health care systems of each country differ, services provided free of charge in the country of origin may not be provided in another country. Warning: In the case of transfer of normal residence to another country, registration is required there through the S1 form instead of the use of the European Health Insurance Card in order that the insured person receives medical care in that country.
